  1. My piece of advice for new homeschoolers is: DO NOT STRESS OUT!!!! Let learning be a part of everything you do all day long and your children will learn.

  2. Please enter me! I guess my advice would be to just enjoy it. Don't worry about every little thing. I know, easier said than done, but it really is great fun to see your children learn. And to learn along with them!

  3. We are excited about teaching history and science in unit studies this year!

  4. my advice for new homeschoolers is, to relax and enjoy the learning right along with your kids! You are always going to wonder if you're doing enough and that's a good sign if you're asking yourself that!

  5. I am so excited to see my son learn! I have sort of started and have already seen so much improvement! Once our summer schedule slows, we will do "school" on a more regular schedule. I cannot wait to see how he does!

I am terrible at art, so this would be a blessing :)

  6. Having been a public school teacher before we started homeschooling, my advice is that homeschool is not the same as "school at home." I initially set up a classroom and everything at home, but we always end up together at the kitchen table anyway!

  10. My advice is not to do school at home. It takes the joy out of educating your children. Go with their interests and lead them.

  11. My advice- Don't try to do everything that everyone else is doing- do what feels right for you and your family! Also... take it one year, one month, one day at a time.

  15. If it doesn't work, try something else. For example, the reading lessons I used for my sons, didn't work for my daughter, but another program worked great! A lot less stress for both of us.

  16. Focus on reading, writing & math and everything else later. Thanks! Tranhasmail@gmail.com

  21. My advice for a new homeschooler is to enjoy learning with your children.

    ReplyDelete
  22. My advice would be to take note of what your child's interests and natural talents are, and to do everything you can to encourage them in those fields.

  26. What excites me most about this homeschooling journey is to take life as it comes and learn as much as we can in the process...something that will serve my son for the remainder of his days.

  27. My advice--Determine each child's individual needs and interests and meet them where they are at.

  30. One piece of advice is that you don't need to spend a lot of money to give your children an excellent education. You can shop used sales, garage sales and then spend what you can afford on what you really need new.

  31. My advice for new homeschoolers us to connect with other homeschool families, especially if they have children older than yours. They can give you great advice and encouragement.

  32. My first piece of advise is school is never closed its all day everyday--everything is a open book for us,No stressing allowed-- If there is just a hint-- we stop drop to a game and then get back to our studies. We call this the Fireman- Stop, drop, and roll.Sometimes, when I have gotten really upset with Jesse we have done things like throw snowballs at each other--right now its water balloons. Our life probably looks like we just play, but I am a firm believer that learning should be fun.Life is so short, and something so hard to live, that learning has to be fun.

  33. I would tell a new homeschooler to not worry about covering everything in the curriculum but to focus on your child's interests. And that's what I'm excited to do this year, a little more interest-led learning :0)

  34. I'm also following you on GFC!

  35. Having just finished my first year of homeschooling, the advice I learned is to just RELAX and have more fun!

  37. This will be our first year homeschooling, we are starting with preschool this year with our 3.5 year old little boy. We are excited about our first year because we cannot wait to see how much our little boy grows in learning throughout this next year!

    ReplyDelete
  38. This is our 6th year homeschooling and I would say to new moms...don't be afraid to change! Don't feel like you have to do every little thing that your curriculum says. If you need to tweak it, do it! Fit it to meet your family's needs. And if something isn't working, switch to something that does.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Relax! Do your research, but don't overstress and overplan; the joy of homeschooling is you can adapt as you go along to best meet everyone's needs...

  41. New to Home Schooling this year. I am excited to be reading all this new advice! Very helpful! Thanks for such a good mandatory comment. I am excited I don't have to be sending my girls on a half hour bus ride at 6:30 in the morning!

  42. hmm, well this is my first offical year of homeschooling so I enjoyed the advice above. But, I was homeschooled growing up, so my advice is: even when you think they aren't learning...they are.

    ReplyDelete
  43. My advice would be to start small and add as you go. Starting out with too much lust overwhelms you and will defeat you everytime.

  44. this is my first year, I'm so excited about hands on learning especially in history!

  47. I'm new to homeschooling. My oldest is 3.5 years old and my youngest is 15 months. I'm looking forward to doing all the fun things I loved as a kid with my kids and I'm looking forward to giving my daughter as much as she needs 1 on 1. I was the kid who would have benefited from this and didn't and my oldest is very similar. She loves art. Anything she can color, paint and craft. I would love to use this with her.

  48. Start slowly. It's not so much having the "right" curriculum. Play with your kids. Read with your kids. Find out what their interests are. Go outside. Visit local parks or museums. Cook together.
